Nancy Johnson-Mercado
Award winning artist Nancy Johnson-Mercado was educated at Rhode Island College majoring in Art Studio. She has been a potter for over twenty years.
The clay used is stoneware body, which is a high temperature clay that is fired to 2200 degrees F. The majority of items produced are functional and are lead-free, microwave, oven and dishwasher safe. Much of her work is inspired by nature and the organic style of the Art Nouveau movement. Some pieces have added decoration taken from nature such as semi-precious stones, feathers, dichroic glass, fungi, shells, wire or beadwork.
Nancy and her husband Bert participate in numerous Fine Art shows around Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York (see show schedule) and has won numerous awards. Along with producing pottery for shows, stores and custom orders, Nancy also teaches hand building and wheel thrown techniques in her studio in Norwich, Connecticut.
Nancy is also a professional Harpist and has been performed for area restaurants, weddings and other social functions for the past 29 years. Nancy also weaves custom made scarves on the loom.
